Graphing Baitfish &
Catching GIANT Smallmouth Bass!
All through the fishing season, smallmouth follow a predictable migration. Knowing when to be where is key when focusing on things like water temperature, structure and as important as all, bait. Different times of the season will make forage like crawdads, yearling perch and flies the preferred forage but late fall screams baitfish to me and for good reason..
Northern baitfish like tullibee don’t spawn till late fall. The lakes biggest of predator fish such as muskie, walleye and you guessed it, mega-sized smallmouth bass know where to be and when to be there. If you’re willing to brave the weather and all the elements that can come with it, it’s the best chance at catching some of the biggest bass that swim.
In this video, I’m searching for schools of baitfish in my Lowrance electronics and then finding the nearest smallie-looking water nearby. The ActiveTarget recordings show exactly what I’m looking at as I work through these stop signs along their migration route.
